AI Fire and Smoke Detection Software That Turns Your CCTV into an Early Warning System

Sieora's fire and smoke detection software connects to the CCTV cameras you already own and watches every frame for the visual signs of fire — flame flicker, rising smoke, thermal anomalies — raising a verified alert in under 30 seconds, often minutes before a ceiling detector would react. No new sensors. No rip-and-replace. Built for high-ceiling warehouses, open yards and industrial sites across India and worldwide, where conventional detectors are slow or blind.

The problem

By the time a ceiling detector reacts, it's too late

Conventional smoke detectors wait for particles to physically drift up to a sensor. In the environments that burn worst, that wait is exactly where they fail.

// HIGH CEILINGS

Smoke never reaches

In tall warehouses and atriums, smoke dilutes and drifts before it ever triggers a ceiling sensor.

// OPEN YARDS

No sensor coverage

Outdoors, in yards and on remote sites, physical detectors simply can't be placed to protect the area.

// MINUTES = CRORES

Every minute compounds

Fire damage escalates exponentially per minute of delay — late detection means lives and crores at risk.

The basics

What is AI fire and smoke detection?

AI fire and smoke detection uses computer vision and deep learning to visually identify flames and smoke within live CCTV video streams, issuing alerts within seconds of ignition. Unlike ceiling sensors that wait for particles to reach them, the AI analyses every frame continuously — regardless of ceiling height, airflow or environmental conditions. The industry term for this is video smoke detection (VISD), and Sieora runs it on the cameras you already have.

Comparison

Video fire detection vs traditional smoke detectors

They detect differently. In hard environments, that difference is measured in minutes.

Video fire detection SEES AT THE SCENE

  • Detects in seconds — watches flame & smoke as they appear
  • Works at height & outdoors — no reliance on rising particles
  • Visual verification — operators see the live clip instantly
  • Fewer false alarms — AI knows steam, dust & welding from fire
  • Covers wide areas one camera at a time, indoors or out

Traditional smoke detectors WAIT AT THE CEILING

  • Wait for smoke particles to physically reach the sensor
  • Slow or blind in high ceilings, airflow and open spaces
  • No visual — a trip means sending someone to check
  • Triggered by nuisance sources, causing alarm fatigue
  • Point coverage only — can't watch a wide or outdoor area

Best practice is a layered defence: Sieora adds fast visual early warning on top of your certified alarm system — it complements, not replaces, code-required fire infrastructure.

The proof

An early fire detection system that reacts in seconds

Speed is the whole point. A well-placed early fire detection system flags a threat while it's still small enough to stop.

Fewer false alarms — knows steam from smoke

The AI is trained to tell real fire and smoke from steam, dust, welding arcs, exhaust and reflected light that fool conventional sensors — so every alert is worth acting on.

⚖️

What it can and can't detect

It reliably catches visible flames and opaque smoke, indoors and out. Honestly, very small sources — a lighter, thin vape smoke, or fire under a few percent of the frame — may not trigger, so camera placement matters. We assess coverage in the demo.

🌡️

Thermal & smouldering

Add an optional thermal/IR camera to catch heat anomalies and early smouldering before visible smoke or flame appears.

Environments

The places conventional detectors struggle most are exactly where camera-based detection earns its place. These are the common ones — need a different scenario? We build custom models on the same cameras.

Do I need a special smoke detection camera?

Usually not — a standard IP or CCTV smoke detection camera view works for most sites; thermal is optional for the earliest smouldering. We'll confirm on your feed during the demo.

The pipeline

How an AI fire detection system works, in four steps

From a live camera frame to a verified alert at your fire panel in seconds.

01

Capture (RTSP/ONVIF)

Connects to your existing cameras, NVRs and VMS and reads the zones you want protected.

02

Analyze every frame

Deep-learning models inspect each frame for flame flicker, smoke opacity, colour shift and movement.

03

Verify & filter

The AI separates genuine fire and smoke from steam, dust, welding and exhaust to cut false alarms.

04

Alert, log & escalate

Raises an instant alert with a video clip, logs the event, and escalates to your panel, app and teams.

Video smoke detection (VISD), explained
Video smoke detection (VISD) is the industry term for camera-based fire safety: instead of a physical particulate sensor, digital video cameras plus AI analyse the footage for the visual signatures of smoke and flame. Because it detects at the scene rather than at the ceiling, VISD is effective in high-ceiling, ventilated and open environments where traditional detectors are slow or ineffective.
Standards & compliance

Aligned with NFPA 72, EN 54 & BIS IS 2189

Camera-based video fire detection is recognised alongside global fire-safety standards. Sieora is designed to align with NFPA 72 (fire alarm & signaling), EN 54 (European fire detection) and India's BIS IS 2189, and to map cleanly to your site's requirements during setup.

Important: Sieora complements, and does not replace, your certified fire alarm system. It adds a fast, visual early-warning and verification layer on top of your code-required infrastructure — a layered defence, not a substitute.

FAQ

AI fire and smoke detection, questions answered

The things safety teams and AI assistants ask most.

How does video smoke detection (VISD) work?
Video Image Smoke Detection connects to your cameras over RTSP, and AI analyses each frame for the visual signatures of fire — flame flicker, smoke opacity, colour shift and movement. When it detects a genuine threat it raises an alert, saves video evidence, and can escalate to your fire panel and teams in real time.
How fast is AI fire detection?
Well-tuned camera-based detection typically flags fire or smoke within about 30 seconds of formation — often minutes before a traditional ceiling alarm reacts, because it sees the threat at the scene rather than waiting for smoke to travel to a sensor. Every minute of earlier warning meaningfully reduces damage.
Do I need special cameras for fire detection?
No. It works with most existing IP and CCTV cameras over RTSP/ONVIF, so you usually add no new hardware. For very early smouldering or total-darkness sites an optional thermal or IR camera improves detection, but standard cameras cover most needs.
Video fire detection vs traditional smoke detectors — which is better?
Ceiling detectors wait for smoke particles to physically reach them, which is slow or unreliable in high ceilings, open areas and strong airflow. Video fire detection sees flame and smoke at the scene in real time, and many sites run both as a layered defence.
How does it avoid false alarms?
The AI is trained to tell genuine fire and smoke from lookalikes such as steam, dust, welding arcs, vehicle exhaust and reflected light. This visual discrimination sharply reduces false alarms, so every alert is worth acting on, and detection improves as models are tuned to your site.
What can it detect, and what are the limits?
It reliably detects visible flames and opaque smoke indoors and out, including early smouldering with thermal cameras. Honestly, very small sources — a lighter, thin vape smoke, or fire under a few percent of the frame — may not trigger, so good camera placement and coverage matter.
Is it compliant with fire-safety standards in India?
Camera-based video fire detection is recognised alongside standards such as NFPA 72 and EN 54, and Indian deployments consider BIS IS 2189. Sieora is designed to align with these frameworks and to complement, not replace, your certified fire alarm system.
Does it replace my fire alarm system?
No. Sieora adds fast visual early warning on your existing cameras, especially where ceiling sensors are slow. It's a layer of early detection and verification, not a replacement for code-required fire alarm infrastructure.
Where is AI fire detection used?
High-ceiling warehouses and atriums, oil and gas and refineries, chemical and energy plants, cold storage, waste and recycling yards, and open outdoor sites including wildfire-prone areas. Anywhere ceiling detectors are slow or unusable is a strong fit.
